Prairie Harbour Inc. in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba is an emergency shelter for women and children experiencing domestic and or family violence. Offering 24-hour, 7 day a week accommodation to help support and empower women to live free from abuse. They strive to promote empowerment, build self-esteem and confidence by providing individual counselling, educational and support groups, and workshops.
They receive most of their funding from the Family Violence Prevention Program, which falls under Department of Families, Status of Women. They also apply for various grants to be able to provide additional staffing, programs, and services. They rely heavily on private donations.
